Target Information
TMPRSS2 is a protein belonging to the serine protease family. It contains a type II transmembrane domain, receptor class A domain, scavenger receptor cysteine-rich domain, and protease domain. Serine proteases are involved in various physiological and pathological processes. The TMPRSS2 gene is up-regulated by androgenic hormones in prostate cancer cells and down-regulated in androgen-independent prostate cancer tissue. The protease domain is thought to be cleaved and secreted after autocleavage.
