This product contains purified recombinant human Resistin protein with an N-terminal hexahistidine tag.
It may be used as a positive control in many immunological assays.
Target Information
Adipose tissue acts as an energy reserve and is tightly regulated. Adipocytes produce and secrete various physiologically important proteins such as lipoprotein lipase (LPL), leptin, Acrp30, perilipin, and resistin.
Resistin, also known as Adipocyte Secreted Factor (ADSF) and FIZZ3, is a cytokine secreted specifically by adipocytes. Although its function is not fully understood, it plays key paracrine roles and is implicated in type 2 diabetes.
Studies show that serum resistin levels are elevated in obese, diabetic mice, antagonizing insulin activity and inducing insulin resistance and glucose intolerance. Resistin gene expression requires C/EBP alpha, and coactivators CBP and p300 acetylate histones at the resistin promoter, activating chromatin for transcription. PPAR gamma and RXR ligands have been shown to downregulate resistin expression in adipocytes.
