Target Information
Mutations in the GNAS gene are associated with:
- Pseudohypoparathyroidism types 1a and 1b
- Albright hereditary osteodystrophy
- McCune-Albright syndrome
- Progressive osseous heteroplasia
- Polyostotic fibrous dysplasia of bone
- Some pituitary tumors
The GNAS gene exhibits complex imprinted expression patterns, encoding maternally, paternally, and biallelically expressed proteins derived from alternatively spliced transcripts. These transcripts involve differentially methylated regions and unique promoter structures. Mutations may result in atypical autosomal dominant inheritance requiring maternal transmission for full penetrance.
