Target Information

The CDH11 gene encodes a type II classical cadherin, a calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecule belonging to the cadherin superfamily. These are single-pass transmembrane proteins with extracellular cadherin (EC) domains, a membrane-spanning region, and a conserved cytoplasmic domain.
Type II cadherins, including cadherin-5, -6, -8, -11, and -12, lack the HAV cell adhesion sequence found in type I cadherins. Cadherin-11 (OB-Cadherin) is highly expressed in mesenchymal tissues such as brain, spinal cord, bone marrow, and bone cells, and plays a role in bone development and maintenance.
A variant form of Cadherin-11 with a unique cytoplasmic domain is produced by alternative splicing. Elevated CDH11 expression has been observed in invasive breast cancer cell lines, suggesting its potential as a marker for aggressive tumor subsets.
