Target Information
Endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 1 (ERAP1) is a 120 kDa protein localized to the ER lumen. It removes NH₂-terminal residues from antigenic precursors for MHC class I peptide presentation. ERAP1 trims peptides of 9 amino acids or more and is induced by interferon-gamma.
The human ERAP1 gene maps to chromosome 5q15 and is also known as:
- Adipocyte-derived leucine aminopeptidase (A-LAP)
- Puromycin-insensitive leucine-specific aminopeptidase (PILS-AP)
- Aminopeptidase regulator of TNFR1 shedding (ARTS-1)
A-LAP may regulate blood pressure by inactivating angiotensin II. PILS-AP is involved in angiogenesis, and ARTS-1 promotes TNFR1 shedding. Further research is needed to fully understand its functions.
