Product Specific Information
- For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Spectrins are principal components of the cell membrane–cytoskeleton and are composed of two alpha and two beta spectrin subunits.
The protein encoded by the SPTBN2 gene, also known as spectrin beta non-erythrocytic 2 (βIII-spectrin), is related to but distinct from spectrin beta non-erythrocytic 1 (SPTBN1).
SPTBN2 regulates the glutamate signaling pathway by stabilizing the glutamate transporter EAAT4 at the plasma membrane surface.
Mutations in this gene cause spinocerebellar ataxia type 5 (SCA5), characterized by neurodegeneration, progressive locomotor incoordination, dysarthria, and uncoordinated eye movements.
