Target Information
Ephrin receptors and their ligands (ephrins) mediate various developmental processes, particularly in the nervous system.
Ephrins are divided into two classes:
- Ephrin-A (EFNA): Anchored to the membrane via glycosylphosphatidylinositol linkage.
- Ephrin-B (EFNB): Transmembrane proteins.
Eph receptors are classified into two groups based on extracellular domain sequence similarity and ligand-binding affinity. They represent the largest subgroup of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs).
The EphB6 receptor encoded by this gene lacks kinase activity but binds to ephrin-B ligands.
