Description:
The 53-7.3 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD5, a 67 kDa protein expressed by most thymocytes, mature T cells, and a subset of B cells. Expression of CD5 by a small subset of B cells characterizes a distinct lineage called B-1 cells. CD5 acts as a counter-receptor for CD72 and plays a role in T-B cell interaction.

Applications Tested:

• Tested by flow cytometric analysis of mouse splenocytes.
• Recommended ≤ 0.125 µg per test (100 µL final volume).
• Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test.
• Antibody should be titrated for optimal assay performance.

Target Information

CD5 is a 67 kDa human T-lymphocyte single-chain transmembrane glycoprotein found on:

• All mature T-lymphocytes
• Most thymocytes
• Many T-cell leukemias and lymphomas
• A subpopulation of activated B-cells

It may act as a receptor regulating T-cell proliferation.
CD5 is expressed by ~95% of thymocytes and ~72% of peripheral blood lymphocytes.
In lymph nodes, reactivity is mainly observed in T cell areas.
Associated diseases include thymus cancer and Richter’s Syndrome.
