Target Information
GIPR (Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide Receptor) encodes a G-protein coupled receptor for gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP).
GIP was first identified as an activity in gut extracts that inhibited gastric acid secretion and gastrin release, but later found to stimulate insulin release in the presence of elevated glucose.
Mice lacking this gene show higher blood glucose levels with impaired initial insulin response after oral glucose load.
Defects in this gene may contribute to the pathogenesis of diabetes.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
