Target Information

This gene encodes a protein that is a component of the NuRD (nucleosome remodeling deacetylase) complex found in the nucleus of human cells. It is broadly expressed and strongly present in many tissues. The gene may belong to a small family encoding related proteins involved in transcriptional regulation, either directly or indirectly through chromatin remodeling. It is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in certain carcinomas. These proteins share common domains including DNA-binding domains, a dimerization domain, and a methyltransferase-related domain. One known target of this gene product is p53; deacetylation of p53 correlates with loss of growth inhibition in transformed cells, linking this gene family to metastasis.
