This antibody detects endogenous levels of total KISS1 protein.
Target Information
The KISS1 gene functions as a metastasis suppressor, inhibiting metastases of melanomas and breast carcinomas without affecting tumorigenicity. The encoded protein may inhibit chemotaxis and invasion, attenuating metastasis in malignant melanomas. It may also regulate events downstream of cell-matrix adhesion, possibly involving cytoskeletal reorganization.
Kisspeptin, a product of this gene, stimulates gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)-induced gonadotropin secretion and regulates pubertal activation of GnRH neurons.
A polymorphism in the terminal exon results in two protein isoforms; absence of an adenosine at the polymorphic site leads to utilization of a downstream stop codon and an extended protein by seven amino acid residues.
