eIF3i는 진핵 번역 개시 인자 3(eIF-3) 복합체의 구성 요소로, 단백질 합성 개시의 여러 단계에 필요합니다. eIF-3 복합체는 40S 리보솜과 결합하여 eIF-1, eIF-1A, eIF-2:GTP:methionyl-tRNAi 및 eIF-5를 모집하여 43S 전개시 복합체(43S PIC)를 형성합니다. 또한 mRNA의 모집과 스캐닝을 촉진하며, 종료 후 리보솜 복합체의 해체 및 재활용에도 관여합니다. 이를 통해 40S와 60S 리보솜의 조기 결합을 방지합니다.
