Target Information
DYRK1A belongs to the dual-specificity tyrosine phosphorylation-regulated kinase (DYRK) family. It is implicated in neuronal differentiation and neurodegenerative diseases and is considered a strong candidate gene for learning defects associated with Down syndrome. DYRK1A phosphorylates multiple transcription factors such as p53, inhibiting embryonic neuronal cell proliferation. It interacts with SPRED1 and SPRED2, which inhibit its phosphorylation activity. Evidence also suggests DYRK1A may play a role in HIV-1 replication.
