Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Synuclein beta.
Target Information
The Synuclein family of proteins is abundantly expressed in neuronal cytosol and presynaptic terminals. In vertebrates, they are encoded by three different genes. Synucleins have been implicated in major diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and breast cancer.
- In AD, peptides derived from alpha Synuclein form intrinsic components of amyloid plaques.
- In PD, alpha Synuclein accumulates in Lewy bodies, and certain alleles are linked to familial PD.
- In breast cancer, increased gamma Synuclein expression correlates with disease progression.
Synucleins may also play a role in membrane plasticity in the developing song control system of songbirds.
