Target Information
The DJ-1 protein (PARK7) belongs to the peptidase C56 family and acts as a positive regulator of androgen receptor-dependent transcription. It may function as a redox-sensitive chaperone and oxidative stress sensor, protecting neurons from oxidative stress and cell death. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal recessive early-onset Parkinson disease 7. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
