CNTNAP1은 contactin-PTPRZ1 복합체와 연관된 190 kDa 단백질로 처음 확인되었습니다. 이 단백질(약 1,384 아미노산)은 p190 또는 CASPR(contactin-associated protein)으로도 알려져 있으며, 여러 단백질-단백질 상호작용 도메인을 포함하는 세포외 도메인, 막관통 도메인, 그리고 74 아미노산의 세포질 도메인을 가지고 있습니다.
그 구조는 neurexin과 유사하며, contactin의 신호 서브유닛으로 작용하여 신경세포 내 신호전달 경로의 활성화에 기여할 수 있습니다. Northern blot 분석에 따르면 CNTNAP1은 주로 뇌에서 6.2 kb 전사체 형태로 발현되며, 다른 조직에서는 약하게 발현됩니다.
