Target Information
Alpha Tubulin is part of a heterodimer consisting of alpha and beta tubulin subunits, each approximately 55 kDa. These heterodimers form microtubules, which serve as structural supports and transport lines within eukaryotic cells and play key roles in mitosis.
Microtubules are composed of alpha and beta tubulins, while gamma tubulin is critical for nucleation. Alpha and beta tubulin genes are highly conserved among species. The alpha tubulin gene is similar to mouse and rat Tuba1 genes, with expression predominantly in differentiated neurologic cells.
