Target Information
The DCTN3 gene encodes the smallest subunit of dynactin, a macromolecular complex composed of 10 subunits (22–150 kDa). Dynactin interacts with both microtubules and cytoplasmic dynein and plays a role in various cellular processes, including:
- ER-to-Golgi transport
- Centripetal movement of lysosomes and endosomes
- Spindle formation and cytokinesis
- Chromosome movement and nuclear positioning
- Axonogenesis
This subunit is primarily alpha-helical with minimal coiled-coil structure and binds directly to the largest dynactin subunit (p150). Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants.
