Target Information
BRCC45 (also known as BRE) was initially suggested to be a housekeeping protein highly expressed in brain and reproductive organs. Later studies showed that BRCC45 forms a complex with BRCA1, BRCA2, RAD51, and BRCC36, exhibiting ubiquitin E3 ligase activity that enhances cellular survival following DNA damage. It may act as an anti-apoptotic protein by inhibiting BID-induced activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway. Elevated BRCC45 levels have been observed in hepatocellular carcinoma, suggesting a role in tumorigenesis when overexpressed. At least three isoforms of BRCC45 are known.
