KCNIP1 유전자는 전압 개폐성 칼륨(Kv) 채널 상호작용 단백질(KCNIP) 계열에 속하는 단백질을 암호화합니다. 이들은 EF-hand 초패밀리의 recoverin 분지에 속하는 작은 칼슘 결합 단백질로, EF-hand 유사 도메인을 가지며 N-말단에서 상이합니다. KCNIP 단백질은 Kv4 채널 복합체의 필수 소단위로 작용하며, 세포 내 칼슘 농도 변화에 따라 A-type 전류 및 신경 흥분성을 조절할 수 있습니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 다양한 아이소폼이 생성됩니다.
