Target Information
Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, plays a key role in development, tissue turnover, and tumor formation. PDCD4 (Programmed Cell Death Protein 4) is a tumor suppressor whose expression increases during apoptosis and is often lost in carcinomas of the breast, colon, lung, and prostate.
PDCD4 inhibits the helicase activity of eIF4A and suppresses AP-1-mediated transcriptional activation. Akt kinase regulates PDCD4 by phosphorylation, reducing its ability to inhibit AP-1 transactivation. Two isoforms of PDCD4 are known.
