Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight from approximately 40 kDa to 68 kDa and have isoelectric points between 4.9 and 7.8.
Different epithelia express specific cytokeratin patterns that correlate with tissue type and differentiation stage.
Cytokeratin subtype expression is widely used to distinguish epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable tools in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometry.
