This antibody detects endogenous protein at a molecular weight of approximately 60 kDa.

Target Information

The SMAD1 protein belongs to the SMAD family, which includes proteins homologous to the Drosophila mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and C. elegans Sma genes. SMAD proteins act as signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways.
SMAD1 mediates bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling, influencing cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development, and immune responses. Upon BMP ligand binding, SMAD1 becomes phosphorylated and forms a complex with SMAD4, regulating transcriptional activity.
SMAD1 is also a target for SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases (SMURF1, SMURF2), leading to ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
