A novel member in this family, APRIL (A Proliferation-Inducing Ligand), also known as TALL2 and TRDL1a, has been identified in human and mouse.
Two receptors for APRIL, TACI and BCMA, mediate its biological effects.
APRIL stimulates B and T cell proliferation, triggers humoral immune responses, activates NF-κB, and induces cell death.
APRIL and its close relative BlyS, along with receptors BCMA and TACI, are implicated in autoimmune diseases and cancer.
