ITGAV encodes integrin alpha chain V, a component of heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of alpha and beta chains. The alpha V chain combines with multiple beta chains (β1, β3, β5, β6, β8) to form different integrins. Among these, αVβ3 integrin, also known as the Vitronectin receptor (VNR), is well-studied for its role in cell adhesion and signal transduction. Integrin β3 is found with the αIIb chain in platelets and participates in cell-surface mediated signaling.
