Target Information
Functions as a key mediator in apoptosis and inflammation. Promotes caspase-mediated apoptosis involving caspase-8 and caspase-9 in a cell type-specific manner. Involved in activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway and macrophage pyroptosis. Acts as an integral adapter in the assembly of inflammasomes, activating caspase-1 and processing proinflammatory cytokines. Mediates interactions through pyrin and CARD domains, required for recruitment of caspase-1 to inflammasomes containing NLRP2, NLRP3, AIM2, and IFI16. May also function in adaptive immunity, dendritic cell maturation, cytoskeletal rearrangement, and transcriptional activation of cytokines independent of inflammasome pathways. Modulates NF-kappa-B signaling via CHUK and IKBK inhibition and RIPK2 competition.
