PA1-4951 detects the HIV-1 p24 protein in HIV samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot and ELISA procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects ~24 kDa, ~55 kDa, and ~41 kDa proteins corresponding to HIV-p24 and its precursors p55 and p41.
The immunogen corresponds to recombinant HIV-1 Gag p24 protein over-expressed in E. coli with a plasmid carrying the Gag p24 coding region of HIV-1.
Recombinant HIV-1 Gag p24 protein (Cat. # RP-4916 or RP-4917) can be purchased for control experiments in Western blot assays.

HIV-1 Gag p24 is a capsid protein forming the core of the AIDS virus HIV-1.
It is produced by digestion of its precursor Gag p55 by HIV-1 protease.
This protein is essential for virus particle construction and replication.
HIV-1 Gag p24 is detectable from early infection stages and serves as a marker for monitoring treatment progress, reflecting viral load in blood.
