AKR1B10은 316개의 아미노산으로 구성된 단백질로, 지방족 및 방향족 알데하이드를 효율적으로 환원시키는 효소입니다. 인간에서 처음으로 보고된 세포질 NADP(H)-의존성 레티날 환원효소로, 새로운 NADP 결합 모티프를 특징으로 합니다. 포도당을 소르비톨로 전환시키는 능력으로 인해 당뇨병 합병증의 발달에 관여할 수 있으며, 부신, 소장, 결장에서 풍부하게 발현되고 간, 흉선, 전립선, 고환, 골격근에서 낮은 수준으로 발현됩니다. 간세포암 등 특정 암에서 발현이 증가하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
