Target Information
The STAT5 beta protein is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. Upon stimulation by cytokines and growth factors, STAT proteins are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases, forming homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators. STAT5 beta mediates signaling from ligands such as IL2, IL4, CSF1, and various growth hormones. It plays roles in TCR signaling, apoptosis, mammary gland development, and liver gene expression dimorphism. Dysregulation of STAT5 beta signaling has been implicated in certain acute promyelocytic leukemias (APLL) involving fusion with the RARA gene.
