Target Information
AGO3 (Argonaute-3) is required for RNA-mediated gene silencing (RNAi). It binds short RNAs such as microRNAs (miRNAs) and represses translation of complementary mRNAs.
AGO3 is proposed to stabilize small RNA derivatives (riRNA) from RNA polymerase III-transcribed Alu repeats containing DR2 retinoic acid response elements (RARE) in stem cells, and mediate riRNA-dependent degradation of certain RNA polymerase II-transcribed mRNAs via recruitment of an mRNA decapping complex involving EDC4.
