Target Information
The structure-specific ERCC1/XPF endonuclease complex is involved in the repair of two types of DNA lesions: nucleotide excision repair (NER) for UV-induced lesions and bulky chemical adducts, and recombination repair of interstrand cross-links.
In NER, dual incisions are made on both sides of the DNA damage by two nucleases: XPG cleaves 3′ of the lesion, while the ERCC1/XPF complex makes the 5′ incision.
ERCC1/XPF may also play a role in processing partially processed recombination intermediates.
