Target Information
SIRT5 is a human member of the sirtuin family (Sir2-like proteins) found in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. All Sir2-like proteins contain a conserved sirtuin core domain. These proteins can metabolize NAD and may act as mono-ADP-ribosyltransferases. Although the enzymatic function of sirtuins is not fully understood, studies suggest roles in NAD metabolism and histone deacetylation, indicating a possible reciprocal activation mechanism involving NAD and acetylated histones.
