Target Information

USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from substrate proteins. Ubiquitylation typically regulates protein stability and degradation; thus, HAUSP activity stabilizes its substrates. It acts as an antagonist of Mdm2, which ubiquitinates and degrades p53. By deubiquitinating p53, HAUSP protects it from degradation, suggesting a tumor suppressor role. HAUSP may also participate in oncogenic stabilization of p53 through Myc and E1A pathways, potentially offering an alternative mechanism for cellular protection against oncogenic stress.
