Target Information
Troponin (Tn) is the central regulatory protein of striated muscle contraction. Tn consists of three components:
- Tn-I: Inhibitor of actomyosin ATPase
- Tn-T: Contains the binding site for tropomyosin
- Tn-C: Binds calcium ions, which abolish the inhibitory action of Tn on actin filaments.
Calcium binding to Tn-C induces conformational changes in the muscle thin filament, enabling actin–myosin interaction, ATP hydrolysis, and tension generation.
