Target Information
CACNA1C encodes an alpha-1 subunit of a voltage-dependent calcium channel. These channels mediate calcium ion influx upon membrane polarization. The alpha-1 subunit, containing 24 transmembrane segments, forms the ion-conducting pore. The calcium channel complex consists of alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, and gamma subunits in a 1:1:1:1 ratio. Multiple isoforms exist due to gene diversity and alternative splicing. The CACNA1C protein binds to and is inhibited by dihydropyridine.
