Target Information
MLH1 is a DNA mismatch repair protein. The repair of mismatched DNA is essential for maintaining genetic integrity. Alterations in microsatellite repeats, caused by strand misalignment during replication, result in microsatellite instability (MSI), which is associated with carcinogenesis.
Mutations in mismatch repair genes, including MLH1, have been linked to hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer (HNPCC). MLH1 forms a heterodimer with PMSH after MSH2 recognizes mismatched nucleotides, facilitating the repair process.
