Target Information
Damage-regulated autophagy modulator (DRAM) is a p53 target gene encoding a lysosomal protein that induces autophagy, a process that degrades cytosolic proteins and organelles. Activation of DRAM by p53 occurs concurrently with activation of proapoptotic genes such as PUMA and Bax, promoting a full cell death response. DRAM alone cannot induce apoptosis, but its inactivation in certain cancers underscores its importance and suggests a significant role of autophagy in tumor biology. At least two isoforms of DRAM are known.
