Neuroligin-4, X-linked (NLGN4X)
Neuroligin-4, X-linked (also known as NLGN4X, NLGN4, Neuroligin-4, Neuroligin 4X) is a postsynaptic cell-adhesion molecule that interacts with presynaptic cell-surface neurexins. These interactions bridge the synaptic cleft and play an essential role in synaptic transmission between neurons.
There are five neuroligin genes in humans: NLGN1, NLGN2, NLGN3, NLGN4X, and NLGN4Y. Mutations in NLGN3 and NLGN4X are associated with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Expression of neuroligin-4, X-linked has been reported on human pluripotent stem cells.
