Target Information
Cytokine receptor signaling is negatively regulated by the SOCS (Suppressor of Cytokine Signaling) family, which includes eight members: SOCS-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and CIS. These proteins share a common structure comprising an N-terminal variable region, a central SH2 domain, and a C-terminal SOCS box. SOCS proteins form part of a negative feedback loop that regulates cytokine signal transduction via STAT-induced transcriptional mechanisms. Expression of SOCS genes is rapidly induced by cytokines, and each member modulates signaling through distinct mechanisms.
