Target Information
The eIF4A proteins are involved in various aspects of RNA metabolism due to their RNA-binding capacity and ATPase activity.
- eIF4A1 and eIF4A2 are cytoplasmic.
- eIF4A3 is nuclear-localized.
In translation initiation, eIF4A unwinds RNA secondary structures in the 5'-UTR of mRNAs, enabling efficient binding of the small ribosomal subunit and scanning for the initiator codon.
