Target Information
The protein encoded by the NCF4 gene is a cytosolic regulatory component of the superoxide-producing phagocyte NADPH-oxidase, a multicomponent enzyme system essential for host defense. It is preferentially expressed in myeloid lineage cells and interacts with NCF2 (p67-phox) and NCF1 (p47-phox) to form a complex that activates flavocytochrome b, the catalytic core of the enzyme system. The PX domain binds phospholipid products of PI(3) kinase, suggesting a role in PI(3) kinase-mediated signaling. Phosphorylation of NCF4 negatively regulates enzyme activity. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been observed.
