Product Specific Information

Retinoic acid receptor gamma, ligand binding domain (RARG-LBD) is a 58.85 kDa recombinant human protein (amino acids 178–454) expressed as a GST-tagged fusion protein in baculovirus-infected insect cells.
RARG-LBD is expressed and purified in the absence of exogenous ligands, making it ideal for ligand binding and coregulator recruitment studies.

Target Information

Retinoic acid, a metabolite of vitamin A, is necessary for normal organogenesis but acts as a teratogen at high levels during embryonic and fetal development.
It functions through interaction with the nuclear protein, retinoic acid receptor (RAR), which belongs to the steroid and thyroid hormone superfamily of nuclear receptor proteins. These receptors regulate gene expression by binding to specific DNA response elements.
RAR exists as three major subtypes: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Two main isoforms of RAR gamma exist:

  • RAR gamma-1: Predominantly expressed in skin
  • RAR gamma-2: Found early in embryogenesis and in embryonal carcinoma cells

RAR gamma is also known as RARD, and the corresponding gene for retinoic acid receptor gamma 1 is NR1B3.
