Target Information
SmcHD1 is required for maintenance of X inactivation in females and hypermethylation of CpG islands associated with the inactive X chromosome.
It is involved in a pathway that mediates methylation of a subset of CpG islands slowly, requiring the de novo methyltransferase DNMT3B.
Also required for DUX4 silencing in somatic cells.
