Target Information
The p53 tumor-suppressor gene integrates multiple signals controlling cell survival and death. Loss of p53 function contributes to cancer development.
CDIP is a pro-apoptotic target gene; its inhibition blocks p53-mediated apoptosis. Overexpression of CDIP induces apoptosis, while suppression of caspase-8 mRNA prevents it, indicating that CDIP-dependent apoptosis proceeds through the extrinsic cell death pathway.
CDIP may serve as a novel target for drug design to enhance p53 response and sensitize tumor cells to therapy. Multiple isoforms of CDIP are known.
