Target Information
SLC29A3 is a member of the equilibrative nucleoside transporter family, playing a key role in nucleoside and nucleobase uptake for nucleotide synthesis salvage pathways. It is a transmembrane glycoprotein localized to the lysosomal membrane and functions as a broad selectivity, low-affinity nucleoside transporter.
Mutations in the SLC29A3 gene are associated with H syndrome, characterized by cutaneous hyperpigmentation, hypertrichosis, hepatosplenomegaly, heart anomalies, and hypogonadism.
A related disorder, PHID (pigmented hypertrichosis with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus), has also been linked to mutations at this locus.
