Antibody is tested in direct ELISA.
For immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

CD81 (TAPA-1, target of anti-proliferative antibody-1) is a member of the tetraspanin family and is expressed on virtually all nucleated cells, especially germinal center B cells.
It forms complexes with other tetraspanin proteins, integrins, coreceptors, MHC class I and II molecules, influencing adhesion, morphology, activation, proliferation, and differentiation of B and T cells.
In muscle tissues, CD81 promotes cell fusion and myotube maintenance and acts as a receptor for the hepatitis C virus.
Like other tetraspanins (CD9, CD37, CD53, CD63, CD82), CD81 is characterized by four hydrophobic domains and mediates signal transduction involved in cell development, activation, growth, and motility.
Antibodies to CD81 exhibit anti-proliferative effects on lymphoid cell lines and are associated with tumor-suppressor gene regions.
