Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the transmembrane 4 superfamily (tetraspanin family). These are cell-surface proteins characterized by four hydrophobic domains and are involved in signal transduction events regulating cell development, activation, growth, and motility.
This protein is a cell surface glycoprotein that complexes with integrins and other tetraspanins, participating in cell adhesion and potentially regulating integrin trafficking and/or function. It is known to enhance cell motility, invasion, and metastasis of cancer cells. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been described.
