Target Information

The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a critical role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression. Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK has been linked to cell cycle regulation.

c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development. Deregulated c-Myc expression induces apoptosis and contributes to neoplastic transformation. Antibodies against c-Myc recognize Myc-tagged recombinant proteins and are widely used in molecular and cancer research.

Amplification of the c-Myc gene is observed in lung, breast, and colon carcinomas, while N-Myc amplification is common in neuroblastomas. Translocation of the c-myc locus to immunoglobulin loci is characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell malignancies. Aberrant c-Myc expression occurs in tumors across multiple tissues including gastrointestinal, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, and hematopoietic origins.
