This antibody recognizes and binds the SARS-CoV-2 C-terminal receptor binding domain (RBD) located in the extracellular portion of the spike protein.
Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a virus that causes illnesses ranging from common cold symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The CoV Spike (S) protein plays a key role in viral attachment, fusion, and entry, and serves as a target for antibody development, entry inhibitors, and vaccines.
The Spike protein receptor-binding domain (RBD, S-RBD) binds strongly to human and bat angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors, exhibiting higher affinity than the SARS-CoV RBD.
The S1 subunit contains the RBD, which specifically binds to ACE2 receptors on target cells.
