Target Information
In the developing cortex, cortical neurons must migrate over long distances to reach the site of their final differentiation. DCX is a cytoplasmic protein that directs neuronal migration by regulating microtubule organization and stability. It contains two doublecortin domains which bind microtubules and interacts with LIS1, a regulatory subunit of platelet activating factor acetylhydrolase. This interaction is crucial for proper microtubule function during cortical development. Mutations in the DCX gene cause X-linked lissencephaly.
